Nintendo Is Killing The Popular, In Demand NES Classic
In a head scratching moment, Nintendo is going to kill the NES Classic. According to IGN, the last shipments will go out throughout the month. The general reaction online is “What the heck Nintendo!?” Demand for the NES Classic Edition is extremely high, with it being sold out everywhere since the launch. The Classic is going for double even triple on Ebay and Amazon, but stores have been getting stock of the Classic here and there. Since the announcement of the Classic being axed, Ebay prices have gone to 4x the $59.99 price.
Nintendo claims the NES Classic wasn’t a long-term project, and that they increased shipments when the demand developed. Since then, many have wondered what Nintendo was doing to have such a shortage of the Classic. The Classic is an easy device to make with only a few parts and software that is easily available on the internet. Nintendo has always struggled to keep their devices in stock, but it appears the problem is bigger than ever. The Nintendo Switch is still out of stock a month after launch.
NES Classic is canceled for no apparent reason
Nintendo is killing both the Classic and the controller for the Classic, but third-parties could still produce Classic controllers. Nintendo wouldn’t disclose the sales of the Classic, nor would Nintendo address the future of the Classic brand worldwide. As of now, the NES Classic won’t be sold in North America. If you’d want to travel outside of America, you can try your luck with finding the device.
What we know is Nintendo sold 1.5 million units of the Classic in Q3 last year, so with the high demand, it could have doubled since. Nintendo may have axed the Classic for business reasons. It may have been made t a loss or cost the company time and attention that they could have used with the Nintendo Switch. Either way, if you don’t have the Classic Edition console – you may never get a chance to buy one at retail value.
