New Rumors Shed Light On The Upcoming Nokia 9 Smartphone
Nokia used to be one of the biggest names in cellphones, but, over the years, they’ve been eclipsed by Apple and Samsung. However, the once-dominant company is attempting to make a comeback with a new high-end smartphone named the Nokia 9.
HMD Global owns the rights to use Nokia’s name on smartphones and they’ve released several lower-end models over the past few months. While none of them have been bad phones, they clearly weren’t meant to compete with the likes of the iPhone, Galaxy S8, or Google’s Pixel.
The Nokia 9, on the other hand, is being positioned as the company’s first high-end smartphone. We don’t have any concrete information regarding the phone, but there are a number of rumors regarding its design. For starters, the screen is rumored to be a 5.5-inch QHD OLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560. OLED screens most commonly found on Samsung phones, but there are rumors that Apple may be using one for the iPhone 8 so it’s possible we’ll see OLED screens becoming more common among smartphone makers.
Details surrounding the phone’s design are rather scarce, but it is rumored to have an all-metal frame and IP68 certified. This would mean the phone is dust proof and water resistant for up to 1.5 meters and 30 minutes of submersion.
The phone is rumored to have a fairly large 3,800mAH battery. This is rather large for a 5.5-inch phone so it’s possible this rumor could be wrong. It will likely feature quick charging since that feature is becoming more and more important on high-end smartphones.
The phone’s rumored specs are rather impressive featuring a Snapdragon 935 chip and 6GB of RAM. Those specs would actually make it a bit more powerful than the S8 which features the same chips, but only 4GB of RAM. In terms of OS, the phone will ship running Android Nougat 7.2 which is the latest version of Android on the market.
There have been no specifics regarding the phone’s price but is likely that it will cost about as much as the S8 or iPhone. In terms of release date, the rumors suggest there will be an announcement event in summer of this year with the launch being planned for fall of 2017.
