Microsoft Has Nothing “Dramatic” Planned For Surface Pro 5
Microsoft’s Surface Pro and Surface Book devices are approaching two years old and many users are looking forward to revamped hardware, but so far details have about the upcoming devices have been scarce. However, tech blogger Paul Thurrott recently provided Windows fans with some details on Microsoft’s upcoming hybrid tablet.
Surface Pro 5 will not change the Surface Connect power connector, I was just told. Kaby Lake, nothing dramatic.

Judging from Thurrott’s tweet, it looks like we won’t be seeing any major changes to the Surface Pro. It will continue to make use of the proprietary power connector that is used by the current versions of the Surface Pro and Surface Book. However, given that those cords can be found on Amazon for around $8, this isn’t the inconvenience that it could have been.
The device will also make use of Intel’s Kaby Lake processors. Given the relatively high price point for these devices, it is understandable that Microsoft would invest in the high-quality processors for their new hardware.
Beyond the details gleaned from Thurrott’s tweet, we don’t know much about the upcoming tablet. Microsoft has released new information regarding the tablet’s design or size. Nor do we know anything about the internal hardware beyond the fact that it will make use of Kaby Lake processors. That being said, fans of the current Surface Pro probably don’t have too much to worry about given the fact that Thurrott said there was “nothing dramatic” planned.
Microsoft’s reluctance to make too many changes to the Surface Pro makes sense when you consider the strong sales and review the device has received. After all, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
Currently, we have no information regarding the price or release date of the Surface Pro 5. Hopefully, Microsoft will give us more details soon.
