The iPhone 8 May Be Delayed By A Few Months
Apple fans may be in for some disappointing news as there are reports that the iPhone 8 will be delayed by a few months. According to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News, the iPhone 8 will launch in October or November of this year rather than September as was originally thought.
The report lays the blame on technical issues surrounding the 70 million OLED screens that Apple purchased from Samsung. The paper speculated that the issues could have been caused by a combination of the lamentation process used with the curved displays and the inclusion of a 3D sensor system. The paper’s sources also said that they would be watching Apple’s supply chains in order to see if they could find further evidence of the delay. Assuming the reports concerning the delays are incorrect, the supply chains should receive the phone’s passive components around June.
Assuming these reports are correct, it is likely we’ll still see the iPhone 8 launch in October or November. Given the importance of the Christmas season, it is unlikely that Apple would want to delay beyond that since they would risk missing out on a massive sales opportunity.
Aside from the iPhone 8, it has also been reported that Apple will release the iPhone 7s and 7S Plus alongside the 8. These will likely be marketed as more budget-friendly fans since the iPhone 8 is rumored to be run somewhere between $850-$1,000. The 7s and 7s Plus will likely be several hundred dollars cheaper. This strategy could appeal to consumers who are looking to upgrade their older smartphones, but don’t want to pay full price for the iPhone 8.
As of right now, we still don’t know very much about the iPhone 8. There have been a tons of rumors circulating about the phone promising such features as wireless charging and an edge-to-edge OLED display. There was even speculation that the device’s backplate might be made of glass though more recent rumors stated otherwise.
