Microsoft Set To Reveal Details Of Project Scorpio
On Thursday, Microsoft is expected to unveil the details of its upcoming Xbox Scorpio. First announced at last year’s E3, the Scorpio represents a break from past console generations. Traditionally, we’d see a console remain on the market for about five years before it was replaced by a new model. However, the PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio are not replacements for the Xbox One or Playstation 4. Rather, they’re more akin to PC upgrades. The Scorpio will share a library with the original Xbox One, but will be considerably more powerful.
Tomorrow will mark the first real public unveiling of the console. Prior to this event, we’ve only had rumors, leaks, and speculation to go on, but tomorrow’s event should shed some more light on the mysterious console. Microsoft is choosing to reveal the Scorpio through Digital Foundry, an affiliate of Eurogamer. Given Digital Foundry’s orientation towards examining hardware, tomorrow’s presentation may focus more on the inner-workings of the system than the launch library.
While that will likely be a disappointment to some fans, Microsoft’s decision to focus on hardware makes sense. Sales of the Xbox One have lagged behind the more powerful PS4. Obviously, software likely did have an impact on these sales numbers, but in an era where exclusives are increasingly rare, it makes sense that users would choose to game on the more powerful system.
Digital Foundry’s reveal will go live at 9:00 a.m EST so be sure to check it out of you’re curious about Scorpio.
