GameStop Is Very “Impressed” By Xbox Project Scorpio
GameStop is struggling with sales, causing concerns with investors and customers who are fans of the gaming retailers. In the company’s financial earnings call, they outline not only the bleak outlook for the company’s finances, but also their interest in the Xbox Project Scorpio. GameStop also expressed confidence the Nintendo Switch and improved and beefed up PlayStation console will help their sales over the next year or two.
In the call, GameStop’s CEO Paul Raines stated, that without question, there have been cyclical declines in physical gaming. Now, however, there are cards to play with additions like Sony VR, Nintendo Switch, and Project Scorpio. Game sales have been moving digitally slowly, causing a notable pain point for GameStop. The retailer’s core business is buying and reselling games from all the systems.
GameStop hopes Xbox Project Scorpio will help drive sales
Also during the call, Chief Operating Officer, Tony Bartel talked about the future Microsoft console. He expressed eagerness for the Xbox Project Scorpio, which he claims will be a very “gamer friendly” console. In the end, he added how the “gamer friendly powerful console” would help drive sales this holiday season.
The GameStop team couldn’t point to specifics on what made the Xbox Project Scorpio such a “gamer friendly” console. He did confirm the console would support 4K, making it the only console to natively support such a high resolution. The PS4 Pro supports 4K but the games use a special upscaling to make the games look like they’re 4K. They also added how powerful the console is, something it’d have to be if the console supports 4K games.
Microsoft will use E3 to announce their Xbox Project Scorpio before the fall launch. We’ll likely see pre-orders sometime in late fall before the holiday launch. Tell us in the comments below what you think about the Xbox Project Scorpio! Are you excited for the console and do you think it’ll help drive more sales for GameStop?
