AMD Zen Summit Ridge Processors: SR7, SR5, SR3 Starting at $200
An AMD roadmap has been leaked and it seems like AMD is going with a naming scheme for the AMD Zen Summit Ridge processors that is similar to that of the Intel i Series CPUs. This would, in fact, make things a lot simpler.
We know that at the high end, Intel has the i7 CPUs, in the mid there are the i5 CPUs and the entry level CPUs are the Intel i3 CPUs. Similarly, AMD Zen Summit Ridge processors will be named as SR7, SR5, SR3 and the entry level CPUs will start at the $200 mark.
Summit Ridge processors are going to be the first CPU to be based on AMD Zen. AMD Zen will be coming out early next year and it seems that it will have the potential to make a huge splash in the CPU market. Intel has gone unchallenged for far too long and this could be great news for the average consumer.
AMD will be offering either quad core or eight core CPUs in the lineup. AMD will also be releasing the AM4 enthusiast series that will feature some enthusiast level CPUs. These will be expensive and will come with coolers that will be able to handle up to 140W.
High margin OC Summit Ridge processors will also be coming out. They will have a TDP of 95W but will be able to overclock much higher than standard chips. You will need a good AM4 motherboard for this. Word has it that these CPUs will not come with a reference cooler out of the box. This might be an indication that these Summit Ridge processors will need something better than the AMD Wraith cooler.
We are excited to see what AMD Zen will have to offer as the year comes to an end. We are looking forward to it.
