Fix Micron Memory Issue With MSI GeForce GTX 1070 BIOS Update
Loads of people who bought the GTX 1070 are complaining about the lack of overclocking headroom due to the Micron memory issue. This has become a concern for not only people that have already got the card but also for future buyers.
Nvidia partners have been releasing BIOS updates to counter this Micron memory issue. MSI being one of those partners has also released a BIOS update for the GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G graphics card. Luckily not all GTX 1070 GPUs have been affected by the Micron memory issue as originally Samsung memory was being used in these GPUs. The high demand forced partners to source memory from Micron as well and hence the Micron memory issue.
What this means is that if your GPU features Samsung memory then you will not be affected by this issue. But if you do face the Micron memory issue then you can download the concerning BIOS update and everything will be fine. Nvidia stated following back in September when this issue first appeared:
“We have implemented a change to our video BIOS which should improve the overclocking experience for certain users. The updated video BIOS should be available through our add-in board partners at a later date,”
You can download the MSI BIOS update from the site. If you want to see all the BIOS updates that have been made so far then be sure to check out this listing:
If you do not know which memory your GPU is using then the easiest way to find out is downloading GPU-Z. This software will give you all the details that you need. It is a handy tool for future reference as well so do check it out.
