Kaby Lake Core i5-7600K Vs Core i5-6600K; Performance Test
Some people might think that Kaby Lake will not offer a significant improvement over the SkyLake platform as the SkyLake performance boost was not all that great as compared to the previous generation architecture. People also think that because Intel has no competition in the market the company is bringing slight performance improvements on purpose. Here we have the Kaby Lake Core i5-7600K Vs Core i5-6600K comparison.
The test bench used for the benchmarks features the following:
When it comes to multiple threaded performance the Kaby Lake Core i5-7600K shows a 9% performance increase over the previous generation Core i5-6600K and when it comes to single thread performance there is an improvement of 6%.
When it comes to in-game performance the Kaby Lake i5-7600K shows a 2-4% increase in performance as compared to the Core i5-6600K. If you are strictly gaming then it seems that the jump is not all that significant. But it could be useful if you are a light content creator and you work with videos and images from time to time. If not then making the upgrade may not be all that beneficial.
We are going to wait for the final version of the CPU to come out so that we can see how that performs as well. With better drivers support and more motherboard manufacturers supporting the new platform we may see an improvement in performance beyond what we have seen here but honestly, that is highly unlikely to happen.
Kaby Lake Core i5-7600K might offer a higher frequency while still consumer the same amount of power but when it comes to in-game performance that slight improvement might not be worth the price of a new processor. See all the benchmarks here.
