GeForce GTX 1070 With Micron memory; VBIOS Updates
Some versions of the GeForce GTX 1070 had Micron memory instead of Samsung memory which caused issues when trying to overclock. As it is a high-end card and people paid top dollar for the GPU there is no surprise that people were very upset because of these issues. For a long time, there had been no answer from Nvidia regarding the concerns but we finally got something at the end of September.
There is still no confirmation regarding what was the cause of the problem but EVGA and Palit have now provided updates for the GeForce GTX 1070 that will be able to solve the problem once you have installed them.
It is surprising that both memories from Samsung and Micron used in the GeForce GTX 1070 are identical and use the same voltage but still this issue has come up. In theory, there should be nothing wrong.
It might be a while before the issue can be resolved for other manufacturers and we might learn about the cause of the problem soon but as of right now that is all that we can confirm. If your GPU is branded EVGA or Palit then you can download updates from the respective sites and you should be good to go.
