Samsung Kills Galaxy Note 7 Permanently; Oculus Disables Gear VR
We all know about the whole Galaxy Note 7 explosion issue and now that the company is killing the Galaxy Note 7 for sure Oculus has disabled Gear VR as well. Partners are taking the issue pretty seriously and even if you have not returned your device yet Oculus is releasing an update that will disable your Gear VR.
It is pretty clear why Oculus is taking this step as an exploding phone when nowhere is around is one thing a phone exploding in your face is nothing funny. Here is the list of the devices that are compatible with the Gear VR:
Oculus states that:
Customer safety is our top priority. Oculus is removing support for all Note7 devices on the Oculus platform. Until further notice, Note7 devices will not be compatible with the Gear VR. For more information regarding the Note7, please visit Samsung’s information page or contact Samsung directly.
Samsung has also asked partners to stop selling the devices and according to the company:
We remain committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available.
After two recalls it seems that Samsung is just going to let it go and let the Galaxy Note 7 die. There can be several reasons for the second recall and it could be some other issue besides the battery malfunctioning but that is something for another article and I am not going to talk about that here.
It seems that this has not been a great year for the smartphone manufacturer. Good thing that the year is coming to an end.
