Kaby Lake Xeon E3 1200 v6 Processor Lineup Leaked; Performance Upgrades
The Intel Kaby Lake Xeon E3 1200 v6 processor lineup has been leaked. The new Xeon E3 1200 v6 processor features the new Kaby Lake architecture and has boosted clock speeds as well as lower power consumption. That is all that is new. What is old about the processor line up is that they are quad core, which is not a bad thing in itself.
Intel Kaby Lake Xeon E3 1200 v6 processor lineup is being led by the Xeon E3-1280 v6 and it has the following features:
- 3.9 Ghz clock speed
- 74W TDP
- 8MB shared cache
- 4 cores
Besides the top of the line Xeon E3-1280 v6, we also have the Xeon E3-1270 v6, Xeon E3-1240 v6 and Xeon E3-1230 v6 in the Intel Kaby Lake Xeon E3 1200 v6 processor lineup. These have 3.8 Ghz, 3.7 Ghz and 3.5 Ghz clock speeds respectively. Just like Xeon E3-1280 v6 the rest of the Intel Kaby Lake Xeon E3 1200 v6 processor lineup provides a significant improvement in clock speeds as compared to previous generation processors. The TFP is also fixed at 74W as compared to the 80W on Skylake.
This performance improvement, as well as a reduction in power consumption, may not seem to be much at first glance but let’s put it this way, the performance improvement is 13-15% as compared to previous versions. This may not be all that great when it comes to the general population but for enterprise clients, this can prove to be a significant improvement and a well appreciated one.
Lastly, we have to mention the special edition processors which have the integrated GPUs. In previous generation we saw Intel HD graphics P53, when it comes to Kaby Lake, however, we will be seeing the Gen9 architecture. Because of this upgrade expect a TDP of 78W. The clock speeds, on the other hand, remain more or less the same as we have talked about above.
