Samsung Exynos Chipset; Choosing Between AMD And Nvidia GPUs
According to reports, Samsung is in talks with both AMD and Nvidia for GPUs for their Samsung Exynos chipset. Is seems that Samsung is planning to ditch Qualcomm in 2018 and looking for other companies to partner with for GPUs for upcoming mobile hardware and their Exynos chipset. As of right now, Nvidia seems to have the upper hand with the Pascal architecture but you cannot rule out AMD altogether.
The AMD Polaris architecture is powering the PS4 Pro, so it isn’t out of the picture just yet. Previous rumors suggested that in 2017 the Samsung Exynos chipset would not have a Mali GPU but also employ a Heterogeneous System Architecture. This would improve upon the performance in general.
It seems that in 2018, we might see a Samsung-developed GPU or one that has been licensed from either AMD or Nvidia. If all this plays out as expected then we will be looking at a single S9 model in the future instead of having a Snapdragon version for different markets around the world.
Although these are rumors right now, it should be noted that all of this does make logical sense as having an in-house chip would help Samsung a lot. We will soon find out which direction Samsung is going to be taking for their Samsung Exynos chipset. We will let you know about the progress of this situation and tell you when we have more information to share.
