New iPhone 7 Vs iPhone 6: Should You Upgrade or Not?
Now that the new iPhone 7 has been announced you must be wondering whether or not you should upgrade to the latest version of the iPhone or not. If you watched the launch event you would already know by now but if you haven’t then that is fine. We have you covered and here we are going to talk about the differences between the new iPhone 7 and the older iPhone 6. Whether or not you should make the shift? You decide with these facts in mind.
There is no big difference when it comes to the design of the new iPhone 7. The antenna bands are hidden better at the top and the bottom of the phone so the back does look a bit cleaner besides that there is nothing prominent about the design change to take note of. The new iPhone 7 does come in two new colors, gloss black and matt black. That is something everyone seems to be getting hyped about. Expect these colors to run out first.
No Headphone Jack
Let’s address the Elephant in the room. The new iPhone 7 does not have a headphone jack and Apple is including lightning headphones with the device. Apple wants users to use lightning headphones or switch to a wireless solution.
The new Air Pods were also announced at the event and they are a fancy pair of wireless ear pods. They have sensors so that the music is only playing when you have them in your ear. You can double tap them to get to Siri.
Once again Apple has brought a number of camera improvements to the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The 12-megapixel camera now finally has image stabilization, a feature that we have been waiting for a long time now.
Even though this feature is now common this is the first time it is being introduced in an iPhone. Now you can take even better pictures than before.
On the iPhone 7 Plus model, you get all this goodness along with an additional 12-megapixel telephoto lens which has double the zoom capability so now you have 10x zoom at your disposal. The front-facing camera is now 7-megapixel, which is also a major improvement and great news for people that love taking selfies. This could be one of the greatest selling points for the new iPhone 7.
Much Faster With The A10 Fusion Chip
Inside the new iPhone 7, you find the A10 Fusion chip. This is a quad core custom chip from Apple. Two of the processors are high-performance processors and the other two are high-efficiency processors so you can save on battery life by not having the high-performance ones working all the time.
Apple claims that this will give you two hours of additional battery if you are upgrading from the iPhone 6S, which already had a pretty decent battery life.
Apple claims that the new iPhone 7 will be twice as fast as the previous iPhone 6 but unless you are using some heavy apps like video editing or gaming apps then I do not see it will make much of a difference.
When it comes to RAM the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB of RAM. We are still waiting on confirmation about the RAM on the iPhone 7 but sources claim that it packs 2GB RAM.
Finally, Apple has gotten rid of the 16GB base models and has double the storage on the new iPhones. The new base model has 32GB of storage and you can pay more for 128GB and 256GB as well.
We also talked about the new iCloud storage so be sure to check out that as well. With 4K video, live pictures and what not I am sure you will be going for the 128GB version this year as 32GB could prove to be less unless you do not do anything major with your device.
New Home Button
There is no longer a physical home button. Now what you get is a 3D touch button which gives you feedback like it is a press but it is not actually a physical button on reality. This could be a good thing.
One of the first things that I have seen go wrong with the older iPhones was the home button and you had to make do with the onscreen button that you got. Now if Apple has made this change we might see that this problem goes away once and for all.
Water And Dust Resistant
You need to get one thing straight there is a difference between a device being waterproof and a device being water resistant. You cannot go diving with the new iPhone 7 but if it does accidentally fall into a puddle or a pool then you can rest assured that nothing is going to happen to your device.
The new iPhone 7 is water resistant and not waterproof and any kind of water damage is not covered under the warranty. I would think twice before dropping it into a pool on purpose.
Louder, Better, Stereo Speakers
Whether or not it is a stereo setup is a bit technical. There is a speaker at the bottom, as we have seen in the previous model and now you get another speaker in the ear piece. So now you have louder sound in the new iPhone 7.
While Apple claims that the screen is better than the previous generation iPhone. It is 25% brighter. I do not think that this will matter much as you most probably aren’t going to be having the brightness all the way to full anyways because of the battery. If you are someone like me you are going to have the brightness set to less than half.
Better Battery Life
Apple claims that if you are switching from the iPhone 6S then you will get two additional hours of battery life. If you are switching from the iPhone 6 then you will get even more. if the battery is a major concern then this could be a good reason to switch to the new iPhone 7.
- iPhone 7 | 32GB | £599 / $649

- iPhone 7 | 256GB | £799 / $849

- iPhone 7 Plus | 128GB | £819 / $869

The new iPhone 7 does have some great features that you could be interested in. It has more power, it is faster and has a better camera and Apple claims that it gives better battery life as well. If you want all that then you should upgrade. But if you want the refresh, the different design then you should wait it out.
