Mobile VR headsets that use your smartphone are increasingly successful and for good reason too. They give you immersive experiences and are cheaper than the HTC Vive or the Oculus rift. Having to slide in your phone can, however, limit the manufacturer in many ways. Having a standalone VR headset, on the other hand, can be beneficial for both the manufacturer and the consumer.
The Snapdragon VR820 will enable standalone VR headsets to be a possibility and it will power these headsets and give them VR capability. For the manufacturer, this means more flexibility when it comes to design as they do not worry about different sizes of the phone that will need to fit into the design of the headset. The consumer, on the other hand, will not have to remove the phone time and time again and this idea will give better functionality.
