Apple VR Headset Compatible iPhone Patent Approved
When it comes to VR, for the past year Oculus and HTC have been fighting one another for the market share. Android has dominated the mobile VR market but that could change with this Apple VR headset patent being granted. A headset that will work with the iPhone. Now we know that Apple is going to be revealing the new iPhone in the coming days so this could be one of the new features that the new iPhone could potentially have to offer.
Merge together the Samsung VR and the Google Cardboard and what you get as a result looks like the Apple VR headset. Features of this headset are not clear but there are a few hints here and there. The patent description reads:
Each device may be allowed to extend its features and/or services to the other device for the purpose of enhancing, increasing and/or eliminating redundant functions between the head-mounted device and the portable electronic device.
What this could mean is not really clear. But the launch of the new iPhone is near so hopefully we will be able to learn more about the Apple VR headset later on in a few days time.
The new headset could increase competition however Apple products are well known for their high prices so we do not expect this device to be cheap. It would be bundled with the new iPhone but that does seem, unlike Apple. Then again VR is not cheap either and this device could be cheaper than the Rift or HTC Vive. Hence this could impact the VR market greatly.
All will be revealed soon and if Apple continues making premium products that work and that quality passes on to the Apple VR headset I am sure that this will make an impact in the VR market. A noticeable one indeed.
