AMD Zen Processor Leaked: 8 Cores 16 Threads, 4 Cores 8 Threads
The AMD Zen Processor is something we all are looking forward to. AMD has not told us much about the chips. Two of the AMD Zen processor lineup chips have been leaked and from the looks of things, one has 8 cores and 16 threads while the other one has 4 cores and 8 threads. AMD has been working on the AMD Zen processor architecture for four years and this chip lineup will be coming out early next year.
AMD has not been playing its part in the high-end CPU segment and Intel has been dominating that arena for some time now but with the introduction of the AMD Zen processor it seems like things will be different in the future and that AMD could be making a comeback. AMD is looking to take its share of the high-end CPU market especially the server CPU market.
The first AMD Zen processor of the two has the following specifications:
- 8 cores
- 16 threads
- Base clock: 2.8Ghz
- Boost clock: 3.2Ghz
So what you are getting here is a very powerful yet efficient CPU. Compare this to the similar Intel 8 core 16 thread 6900K Broadwell-E processor. This Intel CPU has a power draw of 130W which means in theory the AMD Zen processor in question is less power hungry. But we will need to see real life benchmarks to confirm this claim as these are leaks and they are not solid facts at the moment.
The second AMD Zen Processor has the following specifications:
- 4 cores
- 8 threads
Here again, you can see that this quad core processor is less power hungry as compared to similar Intel Skylake and Broadwell processors. Both these upcoming chips will be compatible with the AMD AM4 socket.
You can check out performance advantage the AMD Zen processor has as compared to the previous generation in this image below.
