Nvidia Will Power The Nintendo NX With Tegra X1 Not AMD
It has been a year since we are hearing rumors that the Nintendo NX will be powered by AMD. And recently we started getting rumors that this was not the case at all and that Nvidia will be the one to power the Nintendo NX. Which of these two rumors is right and which one is wrong?
According to Eurogamer it will be Nvidia who will be powering the Nintendo NX.
AMD might not have got the deal after all. The Nintendo NX will be shipping as a tablet with two detachable controllers on either side of the tablet. You can also remove the controllers and connect the tablet to a display. The controller would be wireless so you could play the game on the display as well as the tablet. Nintendo NX will have a custom OS for the console.
Looking at these specifications it seems unlikely that this mobile console will have backward compatibility. What we do not know right now is how much of its own DNA will Nintendo be bringing to the table with the Nintendo NX. The last generation console had hardware from IBM and AMD but there were Nintendo specific customizations. What will we be seeing in the Nintendo NX from this perspective?
With this mobile console, Nintendo is looking at fast paced gaming at 60 FPS at 900. The Nvidia Tegra is more than capable of keeping up with those settings. There is no clear indication of games will run at the same resolution across displays or if the 900p resolution is only for the tablet display. The settings could vary from tablet mode to TV mode. We will have to wait and see till there are more details regarding the Nintendo NX mobile console.
The Nintendo NX seems like a really cool idea and it will be coming out next year. So, for now, all we can do is wait and hope that it is worth all the hype that it is creating around the world. The device sounds revolutionary but it will need to meet expectations as well. Let’s hope that it does just that.
