AMD Zen Processor; CPU+GPU= Mega High Performance Chip
AMD came as a rival to Intel in the server market a decade ago but due to some bad moves AMD just could not keep up with the giant. Now the company is looking to get back into the server market and they are looking to do something creative with their upcoming AMD Zen processor.
The AMD Zen processor was pushed to 2017 due to multiple reasons. AMD is still making great progress and the AMD Zen processor will surely make its debut early next year. AMD is planning to merge the CPU with a GPU in order to make a high-performance chip that can do complex tasks.
Here is what the CEO of AMD, Lisa Su had to say about the matter:
“It’s fair to say we do believe we can combine a high-performance CPU with the high-performance GPU.”
AMD is also working on Vega 10 and when asked whether the company was looking to merge the two she replied that:
“Obviously, it’ll come in time, It’s an area where combining the two technologies makes a lot of sense.”
This would not be the first time AMD is going to do something like this. AMD has done similar things for the PS4 as well as the Xbox One. So this can be possible with the AMD Zen processor as well. AMD might be looking into the feasibility of doing so at this time. The CEO did seem to be confident that something of the sort could be done. Now we have to wait and see whether they choose to make the call or not.
This CPU and GPU combo for the AMD Zen processor could be what puts AMD back on the map again. We are looking forward to seeing what AMD has to offer with the AMD Zen processor. What do you think about this plan? A yay or a nay?
