NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080M to Feature 2048 CUDA Cores, 128 TUs
According to leaks on the internet the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080m could feature 2048 CUDA cores, 128 TUs and 64 ROPs. With a base clock speed of 1442 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1645 MHz. There was no detail about memory clock however.
The benchmarks of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080M are pretty clear and it makes this mobile GPU the most powerful single GPU in a laptop.
These benchmarks are not confirmed and it is odd seeing how people got their hands on such information so early in the game.
The desktop GPUs from Nvidia have worked their magic and now it seems that with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080M, the company is looking to do the same with laptops as well. We will see how these cards perform in laptops when we get more information. For now, it seems like Nvidia GTX 1080M graphics card just like its desktop variant, is going to be the most powerful one for laptops.
However, the problem with gaming on a laptop has always been heat dissipation. The slim and sleek laptops are not ideal machines for gaming and they often overheat.
How vendors will solve this problem with such a powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080M GPU on board is a mystery. One that I would like to see solved soon. There is no point in having such a great GPU when your system cannot handle it.
It is safe to say that laptops that will feature the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080M will in no way be cheap. So be prepared to pay their worth when they come out.
