Does Display Resolution Matter? Yes, But at What Distance?
I am one of those people that cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. As it turns out I have been going about it all wrong. A frequently asked question, does display resolution matter? Yes, it does. What you need to know is when and how. Here I am going to tell you just that.
First of all you need a big enough screen to note the difference and another factor that will play an important role is the distance between you and the screen.
You need to be sitting close enough to the screen to benefit from your high display resolution otherwise you will not notice any difference at all.
The problem I had was that most of my work is on smaller screens and I do have a larger one but I never knew that the distance between the screen and myself had any importance. That is till now. Check out the chart to see how far away you need to be sitting according to the display resolution and screen size for you to have the best experience.
So what the data concludes is that, if you have a 50 inch display and you are sitting at less than 15 feet away, this is where you will feel the benefit of having 720p display resolution over 480p. The benefit becomes certain if you reduce the distance down to about 10 feet.
Does display resolution matter? Yes, on bigger displays and at certain distances. You will not be able to feel much of a difference on smaller devices however, and this does not apply to projectors. That is another story completely. With the help of this chart you can figure out the best distance for you to sit away from your screen to get the best possible viewing experience. We all learned something new today.
