PC Gaming Show Demos FPS Virtual Reality Games At E3 2016
Besides the loads of trailers of games I have never heard of during the PC Gaming Show, there was one thing that caught my attention: FPS virtual reality games. If there’s one thing that everyone including me is excited about, it is the ability to move about and actually shoot people in VR.
The Killing Floor Incursion uses Oculus Touch in Virtual Reality. This provides the gamer with unique immersion. That act of Newton’s 3rd Law is as immersive as anyone needs it to be.
Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope will be available on Steam Early Access in Summer 2016. It will use HTC Vive. If you are a Serious VR enthusiast then this is something you will want to watch out for. This is one of the FPS virtual reality games that caught my attention at E3 2016.
For those wanting a bit of a Matrix-like action, Superhot too uses Oculus Touch and has a really catchy trailer showing dual wielding gun and hand movements with complex on the fly fist fighting. Now who does not like dual guns? I think any game that offers that feature is cool because of dual guns on its own. Remember the old Tomb Raider had dual guns feature and that was a ton of fun to play.
This initial take on FPS still looks like actual movement is limited, with the game “throwing” things at a stationary gamer. It is the first generation of VR games after all, still it is a good first step for the tech’s ability to do FPS virtual reality games.
As always, there are limitations and problems with anything first generation and same is the case with VR and FPS virtual reality games. It is still amazing to see what VR has to offer. With time this tech will get even better and provide better experiences.
