Apple Droping Hints of Rebranding OS X to Simply macOS
Rumors have it that Apple might be re-branding OS X as macOS. This change will bring the name in-line with rest of the product range that Apple offers. Renaming the desktop OS at this point would make sense and one would think why Apple took so long to make this change in the first place.
Hints of this change where fond in the App store and also the iTunes website. The website content was later changed in order to cover up these hints. But this is the 21st century and people do not miss these kinds of things over the Internet.
No doubt people have noticed these changes by now and the question is whether this was an honest mistake on Apple’s part or are the rumors true and Apple is re-branding the desktop OS to macOS?
It seems likely that the company could make the re-branding official at WWDC next week. That is if they are planning to re-brand in the first place. We are expecting to see the next version of OS X or the first ever version of macOS at the event. If Apple does intend on re-branding their desktop OS then there would be nothing better than doing so at WWDC.
While some people are arguing about whether the new name will be macOS or MacOS, it seems that the former is more likely. Looking at the rest of the names of the products offered by Apple it seems more likely that the company will go with the lowercase over the uppercase.
Editing the content on the iTunes site to cover up the name change does create some confusion. If Apple was hinting towards a name change then why would they cover it up when people found out? But then again Apple does like to keep people guessing. We will have to wait and see.
