See Why MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X is Better Than Founders Edition No Matter What
GTX 1080 Founders Edition is clearly not as good as the MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X.
Why? due to a variety of reasons, but what we have at hand right now is a comparison between the two cards, one which is the official release from Nvidia – that the company promises will not be limited in quantity and will also not get a price drop – while the other is MSI’s GAMING X version of it.
Do keep in mind that right now we are talking about the level of temperatures and clock stability that each one of them reaches, because naturally that is going to have some effect on the performance of the cards too.
Folks at hardware.info have shared with us graphs where the temperature fluctuations on both the cards are being recorded. You can clearly see in the results that not only does it get much more throttles in the GTX 1080 Founders Edition, but it also falls at least 150 MHz behind the GAMING X version.
The test comparison between the GTX 1080 Founders Edition and the MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X was done with F1 2015 racing title from Codemasters which was run on a 30 minute loop. Check out the graphs below for more insights.
So basically, there was “a horrendous amount of throttling” in the Founders Edition only minutes after the test was started. However, the average clock speed was tallying close to the boost clock speeds that Nvidia claimed.
The fluctuations in the frequency however, cause micro-stuttering.
We will be sharing more details on the MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X when the reviews start coming in, so keep a track of news here.
