Nvidia GTX 1080 vs GTX 980 Ti: It’s Up to 50 Percent Faster!
Needless to say, the new pascal architecture is aimed at getting faster and better in terms of performance, but exactly how much does the Nvidia GTX 1080 achieve as compared to its predecessors, is still being figured out.
We have shared with you some benchmarks for the new graphics card using Ashes of Singularity and of course DirectX 12, which you can find here, however, we have at hand some more technical details suggesting that it is almost 50 percent faster than the last flagship GTX 980 Ti.
Nvidia itself has issued the benchmarks comparing Nvidia GTX 1080 with its direct predecessor the GTX 980. The charts for benchmarks that they have shared reveal that at 1440p on Ultra settings with The Witcher 3, the new card is 1.7 times faster than the predecessor while on Rise of the Tomb Raider it is 1.8 times faster.
This is a little less than what Nvidia has previously claimed i.e. the GTX 1080 would be as good as two GTX 980 cards in SLI.
In order to be able to compare the Nvidia GTX 1080 with Nvidia GTX 980 Ti, we are now making use of these benchmarks comparing the 980 Ti with 980 itself. The results show that 980 Ti is about 20 percent faster than 980. Using the same ratio we can calculate that the 1080 will be at least 50 percent faster than 980 Ti running The Witcher 3.
If we expand our reference frame, we will see that the difference between 980 and 980 Ti varies from benchmark to benchmark between 20 to 30 percent. Which means our calculations will still be on the safe side of the equation.
