Chromium OS Comes To Raspberry Pi, Availability on More Boards Expected
Owners of Raspberry Pi would be happy to learn that Chromium OS has been ported to a couple of models of this single-board computer.
The Chrome-OS inspired Chromium OS is right now at version 0.5 for Raspberry Pi; also some important features are missing from the OS like support for WiFi, Netflix and HTML 5 video but they do run more or less.
The latest release of Chromium OS only supports Raspberry Pi 2 and Raspberry Pi 3 devices, but other single board computers (SBCs) can expect a version of OS coming to them, as well.
SBC donations to the project by several companies suggest that the OS will be available to other devices rather than just Raspberry Pi at some point. These donated boards include Hummingboard Edge, Orange Pi, Lemaker, Nano Pis and more.
The Chromium OS project is not for testing hardware, the team behind the project recently hired Kevin McAleer to implement the OS for the Prince64 board, expressing their dedication for targeting the new bords.
Based on the donated board names, it is clear that the team is aiming for Raspberry Pi compatibility, so we are not sure that Chromium will make its way to high-end single board computers like HardKernel Odroids or other low power boards like BeagleBoard Bones.
Chromium OS can also be installed on Intel`s Compute Stick or other small devices.
