Rockit 88 Delid Tool Is Here To Delid your Intel CPUs
Intel CPUs can be easily delidded using Rockit 88 Delid Tool. Rockit Cool is the company developing this tool, and it has already raised $10,000 through kickStarter campaign to bring this device to fruition.
You must be thinking why people need to delid their CPUs? Let me explain it to you. In a desktop processor, the CPU lid is attached to the PCB using a strong bonding agent and there is a quite a gab between the lid and the CPU die. This gap is filled by a thick layer of Thermal Interface Material (TIM).
For some PC enthusiasts, the TIM is not good enough for heat dissipation. So they delid the CPU and remove the TIM and apply a layer of high performance thermal paste of their choice. According to the enthusiasts, this will lower the operating temperature of the CPU.
Prior to this tool, the enthusiasts used a sharp object like a knife to remove or a mallet to hammer off the lid. These methods do delid the CPU but there is greater chance that CPU will be damaged permanently and also it voids the warranty if you remove the lid.
Rockit 88 Delid Tool only works for socket LGA 1155, 1150 and 1151 processors, which include the 2nd generation all the way to the 6th generation of Intel CPU. With the Rockit 88 Intel CPU Delid Tool, these CPUs can be delidded very easily and without the risk of any damage to the CPU.
As shown in the video demonstration below, the tool tightens around the CPU until the lid comes off the PCB.
