Intel 540s Series SSD Is Now Available, Promises Low-power Storage Solution
Intel 540s series SSD is starting to become available according to a new report. Intel announced the 540s series SSD back in March, and now it is reported by Guru3D that Intel is launching these products.
These Intel 540s series SSD drives are based on TLC NAND flash memory. The SSD drive contains 16nm TLC memory from SK Hynix. These drives are targeted towards valued end of the market and is the first feature to have 16 nm TLC memory.
According to Guru3D, the Intel 540s series SSD drives will be available in 2.5″ M2 formats. The report further states that the consumers will find these drives in six different models at 120 GB, 180 GB, 240 GB, 360 GB, 480 GB and 1 TB versions.
In terms of performance, the Intel 540s series SSD provides up to 560 MB/sec for sequential read and 480 MB/sec for sequential write, as for the random read and write operations in provides up to 78K and 85K, respectively.
The 120 GB model of the Intel SSD will cost 70 euros and will go up to 370 euros for the 1 TB Intel SSD which is still a high price considering these drives are targeted towards value end of the market.
A representative of Intel said they have optimized these Intel 540s series SSD drives for 70/30 which are split in 4 KB random read/write mixed workload which is the general usage of this type of drive. It is aimed towards increasing performance and lowering the power consumption for this usage pattern.
They claimed that if these Intel 540s series SSD drives are combined with 6th generation of Intel Core Processors, these SSD will reduce power consumption from milli watts to micro watts.
