Quantum Break Can’t Be Fixed, Remedy Admits
Bad PC ports have always been the issue with the gaming industry. Since this console generation has started, bad PC ports have gone to a whole another level, A level at which the developers can`t seem to fix the issues of their own game, Ahem….ahem Rocksteady ahem…ahemm !.
This time the elephant in the room is Remedy`s Quantum Break, which have joined ranks along with Batman Arkham Knight. And don`t get me started on the issues of the game like, Fps drops, stuttering, texture pop-ups, and we can`t even use any third party software with the games thanks to Windows Store.
These problems with quantum break would not have been a big issue if, Remedy could just fix them. On the contrary, Remedy have admitted openly, Quantum Break can`t be fixed, only a few of them can be resolved, because some of the issues stem directly from their Northlight game engine. Currently, they are collecting data to try and fix the issues.
When Remedy`s PR rep Thomas Puha was asked if the the texture pop-ups will be fixed, he said:
That just unfortunately is a quirk of our graphics engine.
Texture pop-ups happen when, low resolution texture are placeholders and get replaced with high resolution textures, once we look at them or go close enough.
He also said that graphical ghosting can`t be solved:
Ghosting is just a result of the temporal reconstruction. Just the way we render things.
This blows on the face of Microsoft`s claim, that they are serious about PC gaming and are willing to support it. As for Windows 10 UWP limitations, Microsoft claims they will be fixed.
As a PC gamer myself, it saddens me, that the developers are not putting in the effort to port the games. The publishers need to understand that, this console generation is based on X86 architecture, which is a PC architecture, but it does not mean that, having the same architecture requires little effort to port games to PC.
Last year, a similar situation emerged regarding the PC port of Batman Arkham Knight. The issues were so severe, that Warner bros pulled the game from Steam and offered refunds, till this very day the game has not been completely patched.
