7th Gen AMD Bristol Ridge APU is Already Shipping, with HP Envy x360
AMD Bristol Ridge APU was expected to ship in the first half of this year but not as soon as now. However, it looks like AMD has decided to go ahead and start shipping the 7th gen APU well ahead of schedule.
In fact, the 2 in 1 HP Laptop, HP Envy x360 already comes packing the new APU.
The APU is based on the Excavator core and previous leaks have suggested that it comes with higher base clock speeds as revealed by recent OPN details.
It has also been reported that the insanely powerful APU is going to be even faster than the Xbox One with 16 CUs. Yesterday, details from the Geekbench database had surfaced referencing to the new AMD Bristol Ridge APU suggesting that there will be some bump in the performance.
The new APU is going to replace Kaveri and go side by side with Carrizo which is also based on Excavator core. Bristol too is going to be specialized for Notebooks and HP Envy x360 is the first one to ship with it.
One of the main changes between this one and Carrizo is the implementation of DDR4 memory controller but it also has some manufacturing changes to the microarchitecture.
Check out the generational performance improvements over Kaveri and Carrizo in the image below.
Since AMD has not officially announced details on the AMD Bristol Ridge APU yet, we are short on specifications as of now. However, check back later for more.
