Take an In-depth Look at Your PC’s RAM with ATM: The Cache Machine!
ATM is a portable, expert-level tool which gives you in-depth information about your PC’s system file cache, memory standby lists and Superfetch performance, as well as (on Windows 10) memory compression.
The program is designed to present data in a huge block of text, which updates in real time. The interface might look a little intimidating at first glance, but it arguably makes a lot more sense considering all the data is displayed up-front, without you having to spread it across multiple windows.
Further, a graph is also shown on the right side of the window, graphically plotting your memory usage over time (used, cache, system, standby, zeroed, more).
ATM gives you all this information, including various standby lists by priority, along with buttons to clear those lists, as well as processing working sets, and freeing up RAM.
These capabilities will also help you understand how these OS features help with performance. Specially, the tool and its buttons will be boon for those who run repetitive performance tests and want to ensure that a test result is not compromised by having file components already in memory. By clearing out memory, you actually come closer to ensuring a consistent state of the OS prior to any test run.
ATM is available for free and runs on anything from Windows 2000 up. Keep in mind though, the tool is designed specifically for IT professionals, so there’s no hand-holding.
