AMD Rolls Out New Beta Version of its Vulkan Radeon Graphics Driver
AMD has released a new beta version of its Vulkan Radeon Graphics driver, called 16.15.2111.1001 Beta 1. The new driver is compatible with Vulkan 1.0 specifications, which means it brings support for PowerXpress configurations, in addition to a few other improvements.
According to release notes, the new beta release resolves crashes encountered when launching Hologram, as well as addresses potential version compatability issues related to The Talos Principle.
If you don’t know, Vulkan is a powerful low-overhead graphics API which is derived from and built upon components of AMD’s Mantle. It offers developers more direct control over the GPU, and lowers CPU usage, along with delivering better distribute work amongst multiple CPU cores.
As for compatibility, the Vulkan Driver v16.15.2111.1001 Beta 1 is available in two downloadable executables for both 32- and 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 operating systems. That being said, there are still some known issues which AMD plans to resolve with the next update to Vulkan Graphics driver.
- Windows re-sizing in some applications may cause an application crash;
- HDMI and DP to DVI adapters on Windows 7 may intermittently cause display issues;
- Some AMD PowerXpress systems may experience flickering in some applications.
