Windows 7 and 8.1 Skylake Support Extended
We have some good news for Windows 7 and 8.1 users using Skylake CPUs. Previously, Microsoft made it very clear that Windows 10 is going to be the primary OS to support Skylake CPUs after July 17, 2017. However, things have changed a bit.
Microsoft has extended support for both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 by a year. You now have until July 2018 to move on to Windows 10. After that, users will only get critical security updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
The following is a list of computer manufacturers (OEMs) who have identified hundreds of PC models with Intel’s 6th generation of processors, also known as Skylake, that will be supported on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
Support will be provided until July 17, 2018 and its recommended that these systems be upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as possible. After July 17, 2018, Microsoft will continue to deliver all critical updates for these devices through the respective end of support dates.
Windows 10 is a decent operating system but it has its flaws. July 2018 is some time away so we expect many changes and improvements made to the operating system by then. So enjoy your Windows 7 and 8.1 till July 2018.
Do you think Windows 10 is worth it? Do you think it needs more time to refine into a decent OS?
