Android N Features Include Multi-Window Mode, Doze Improvements, Bundled Notifications
Alright folks, our first look into Android N is here. Google has shared the first preview of new features that are coming our way through the update, and top of the line are multi-windows, a more battery saving Doze, and bundled notifications.
Bundled notifications means that notifications being sent to the device from the same app will be grouped together viewable “by using a two-finger gesture or tapping the new expansion button.”
Then there is the direct re0ly feature where you will be able to respond to a message “without leaving the notification shade,” the preview says.
Moving on to the more important Android N feature, the multi-window mode aka split-screen multitasking. This will work on phones, tablets as well as TVs when incorporated in the apps.
Do keep in mind that since the preview is for the developers who are creating apps that would be used with the next OS, Google is actually talking to the developers here:
A new manifest attribute called android:resizableActivity is available for apps targeting N and beyond. If this attribute is set to true, your activity can be launched in split-screen modes on phones and tablets. You can also specify your activity’s minimum allowable dimensions, preventing users from making the activity window smaller than that size.
Imagery has also been shared to show off some of the features, see the featured image above.
In the past, Doze would save battery when the device was stationary, but now with the improvements that Android N is bringing, it “additionally saves battery whenever the screen turns off.”
So tell us, do you like how Android N is shaping up?
