AMD’s Planning to Unveil Its External GPU Enclosure Soon
According to a new report, AMD is planning to unveil external GPU enclosure sooner rather than later.
Earlier this year at CES 2016, Razer unveiled Blade Stealth gaming notebook which has tendency of external GPU docking; powered b Thunderbolt 3.
With AlienWare’s Graphics Amplifier and MSI’s Gamin Doc already on gaming notebooks owners list, it appears lie AMD is also trying to jump into the fray.
According to a recent report from Forbes; AMD’s Robert Hallock is teasing an external graphics card solution from AMD. Hallock is of the view that gaming ultra-thin notebooks are becoming more and more popular with each day passing which demands such a technology to be introduced from the company. To put into Hallock’s words:
I also bet there’s a bunch of gamers out there who, as they get into their 30s and 40s, wouldn’t mind condensing their entire computing life down into one device that does it all. I ALSO bet that some people wouldn’t mind giving up an mITX LAN rig if their notebook had the potential to serve that role with gusto. External GPU solutions aren’t a possible future; they are the future for laptops. External GPUs are the answer. External GPUs with standardized connectors, cables, drivers, plug’n’play, OS support, etc. More info very soon.
While there is no concrete unveil date when the company will unveil the technology, but with GDC 2016 starting off on Mar. 14, 2016; I would not be surprised to see the external GPU enclosure from AMD during the event.
