$45 JaguarBoard Wants to Compete with Raspberry Pi, Needs Your Help
While those ARM based small form factor PCs give you enough of a compact machine, some of us might not be content with the power that gets you. We are currently looking at a potential competitor of the infamous Raspberry Pi in the form of the $45 JaguarBoard.
However, this little startup is far from there. The company is still looking to get Kickstarted with crowdfunding and if that happens, we will be getting a x86 architecture based SFF system with Intel Atom Z3735G (Bay Trail).
The guys making this single board based PC outline exactly who should be crowdfunding them saying:
Ever wished for a single-board computer like Raspberry Pi but with better performance and x86 architecture? JaguarBoard is your answer!
In the listed price of $45, this little thing is going to get you Intel Atom Z3735G, 1GB DDR3L memory, 16GB On Board eMMC, compatibility with Android, Linux and Windows, 5V/2A power, 3 x USB 2.0 ports 1 x SDIO3.0, two COM ports, four GPIO pins, 1 x 10/100M network interface, and 1 x HDMI1.4 (supporting up to 1080p).
For those who are wondering what x86 is going to change for you, here’s what the developers have to say:
Being based on the x86 architecture brings JaguarBoard better performance, with high level of scalability and compatibility. It allows developers and DIYers who are experienced with x86 architecture to enjoy the single board software development without having to learn about embedded systems such as ARM.
As far as the dimensions are concerned, the JaguarBoard measures 101.9mm x 64.5 mm x 1.6 mm which is pretty small.
So we are looking at a quad-core clocked at 1.33GHz to 1.83GHz and 2MB of L2 cache – would be good enough in terms of power for Internet of Things applications right?
