MSI Vortex and HTC Vive Partnership: Ultimate VR Experience?

Vive branded VR

All of us paid due attention to what Valve and HTC had to show for their HTC Vive (and Vive Pre) as well as everything that MSI revealed including their Mac Pro inspired MSI Vortex tower PC. However, most of skipped the part where these two products are going to go hand in hand.

The fact that MSI was unveiling a number of its products, the MSI Gaming 27XT AIO PC with its external GPU support and whatnot, totally overshadowed the fact that they have also annonuced product optimizations for VR experiences after a collaboration with HTC and Valve both.

Even the official website of the company talks about it:

MSI’s graphics cards, gaming motherboards, gaming notebooks, AIO’s and desktops are ready for the next level of gaming – Virtual Reality. Partnering with HTC, MSI’s hardware will be optimized for the new HTC Vive to give gamers the right level of performance, image quality, and latency to ensure their VR experience nothing short of amazing.

So this means that the new MSI Vortex is going to be their first product that will be specially optimized to work with HTC Vive.

The Vortex packs a Skylake i7 6700K CPU and two GTX 980s – among other things – and it costs a massive $4000! There is a toned down version with two GTX 960s which costs $2000, but even that is massive.

MSI Vortex - HTC Vive

This has twofold implications; firstly, we might be looking at the first best PC to use an HTC Vive on and it is bound to give you the ultimate VR experience; secondly, the ideal device (not the recommended) for HTC and Valve’s VR display is going to cost much more than what Oculus Rift says a good PC for VR should cost!

What do you make of all this? Let us know in the comments below.
