Intel’s Quad Core Skylake NUC Confirmed with Iris Pro, Thunderbolt 3
There have been rumors for this but surprisingly, Intel decided it was time to let everyone know that they are working on new Quad Core Skylake NUC computers.
This will be the first time they are making use of Skylake in their small form factor Next Unit of Computing (NUC) personal computers.
However, there is more to it. Apparently, the chip maker is also working on a gaming focused built that they are calling Skull Canyon. This one is going to come in a completely redesigned casing and Intel promises that it will do better than even the Core i7 Broadwell NUC.
You are looking at a 45W quad-core Skylake CPU, Iris Pro GPU with 72 execution units (EUs), 128MB of eDRAM, Thunderbolt 3 port and more. However, due to the hotter quad core, the design is going to be a little bigger than the last models.
It is also a fact that this might not give you a better performance than those custom made rigs with dedicated GPUs, but then again you also don’t get smaller PCs like this one to be good at gaming – unless you are looking to buy something from the third parties.
Intel has not shared any details regarding pricing or release dates of the Skylake NUC, but we will be sure to let you know as soon as something is shared.
