Microsoft Cortana Will be Your Car Assistant, Thank to Harman
Ever since Microsoft Cortana was originally announced, one thing that many people had in mind was the usage of the virtual assistant beyond the screens. Now, thanks to Harman we are actually seeing that materialize as the VA has been confirmed to launch with their infotainment systems in cars!
Harman was attending CES 2016 where they announced Office 365 integration for their car infotainment systems; this is going to be aided by none other than Microsoft’s very own virtual assistant.
The company says that “the collaboration will integrate key elements of Microsoft Office 365 productivity suite capabilities into HARMAN infotainment systems,” and also grow to add more features.
This project will introduce new mobile productivity services, as well as utilize existing products, services and technologies, including cloud platforms, telematics and driver productivity, to offer better convenience, safety and reliability for drivers and greater operating efficiency for auto manufacturers.
Since they are looking at using Microsoft Cortana in more ways than what they are starting with; we are all but sure that the virtual assistant will soon grow to become a fully functional driving assistant too. After all, the collaboration cannot be limited to one thing only.
At the current level you will be able to do things like opening and editing a spreadsheet, create new documents and so on simply by voice commands.
THe one thing that still needs a lot of improvement in order for this to work perfectly amidst the distractions of driving a car is the voice recognition abilities. Do you think Cortana for car infotainment systems will be a popular product?
