Earliest Oculus Rift Backers Get the Headset for Free
Tomorrow, preorders for the Oculus Rift are going to start, but there will be a group of people who won’t need to go through that process in order to get one for themselves.
Palmer, Brendan, Nate, Michael the primaries of the whole program took to the official Kickstarter page of the head-mounted VR set and revealed that they are going to do something to thank the “earliest” backers.
Everyone who qualifies in that category is going to get a special “Kickstarter Edition” of the virtual reality device for free!
As a small token of our appreciation for your support, all Kickstarter backers who pledged for a Rift development kit will get a free Kickstarter Edition Oculus Rift! And like all Rift pre-order purchasers, you’ll receive a bundled copy of Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie.
It should be worthy of noting that a large number of early Kickstarter backers of the product were quite pissed at the developers for allowing Facebook to acquire the program. It would be interesting to see how much this token of appreciation does to neutralize things.
Anyhow, if you qualify you should fill out the survey Kickstarter sends your way before February 1 and provide them with a shipping address – should be located in one of the 20 countries where Rift is launching, as for the rest they are still working on a solution.
Previously, it has been speculated by Nvidia that there are only 13 million PCs in the market that can actually run an Oculus Rift to its proper potential. They did so while announcing their own VR-Ready program to help users pick up the right rigs for their VR gaming.
