LG to Unveil Newspaper-Like Rollable 18-inch Display at CES 2016
LG is set to show off their innovative rollable and bendable display technology at the Consumer Electronics Show this week. According to a press release, the South Korean firm has a prototype 18-inch screen up its sleeves that rolls up like a piece of newspaper.
LG has already talked about similar technology last year as a proof of concept, but up until now, the company has kept it behind the curtain. CES 2016 will mark the first time when the company will reveal this new tech to the world.
The concept of curved displays is nothing that we’ve only heard from LG Display though. Different companies including Sony, Samsung, and Sharp have showcased this type of concept in the past. LG, however, wants to make these types of screens super cool as it sees them as the future of display industry.
The company is reportedly working displays that could roll up into your pockets or being made to wrap around interior spaces. These types of futuristic displays, whenever they become available, are surely set to revolutionize the mobile devices and TVs.
In addition to the newspaper-like screen, LG will also show an S-shaped 139-inch Vertical Tiling OLED panel that can be used for signage, as well as a 25-inch curved screen installed on the inside of a car at its Auto Zone section.
We will be live at CES 2016, and keep you updated with the latest as it happens!
