Intel Skylake Xeon Overclocking will be Possible with ASRock Soon!
Traditionally, Intel has always restricted overclocking on Skylake Xeon CPUs, but it looks like those days are going to be over very soon. Thanks to a breakthrough of sorts achieved by ASRock, some models of their motherboards are going to let you overclock the processors too!
ASRock has managed to overcome the restrictions put on the Skylake Xeon processors by Intel. They were able to do so by tweaking their motherboards’ BIOS a little bit. As a result, they were able to take a Xeon E3-1220v5 up to 4.5 GHz from the basic 3.0 GHz.
According to the news at hand, Fatal1ty E3V5 Performance Gaming/OC and the E3V5 WS are the two motherboards that will allow the overclocking.
For those who do not know what this could mean, let us tell you that the Xeon E3-1220v5 is a cheaper variant costing only $220 and stands almost side by side with Skylake Core i5 with four cores and four threads. The only problems it had were turbo clock speed, base and lack of integrated graphics. Over clocking this, or even a $275 E3-1230v5 could give them performance as good as a Core i7-6700K!
This saves at least a hundred bucks!
That being said, the possibility of overclocking their new processors is not unheard of, thanks to base clock (BCLK) overclocking, these processors were been deemed overclockable about a three weeks ago.
So far we are not sure when ASRock will officially launch Skylake Xeon overclocking, but keep checking back with us for updates.
