Hardware Enthusiasts Create Gaming Rig Under $150 With 8 Core CPU And 16GB RAM
There is a common perception these days, which also prompts a lot of people to move to console gaming, is that PC gaming is very expensive in terms of hardware costs and the constant need for upgrade to run the latest games. The folks over at Linus Tech Tips aim to change that with their recent guide where they build a budget gaming rig in just $150.
The system they made is an 8 core PC, using two quad-core CPUs simultaneously using a used server motherboard and also features 16GB of RAM which makes it quite an amazing package. Obviously, this price tag only includes the barebones PC and doesn’t include the price of a casing, GPU and power supply but even all that stuff can be acquired by doing some smart shopping for used parts.
However, building with old server components isn’t a cakewalk. Finding compatible parts is a bit of a hassle, and you may have to do a bit of DIY modding to make everything work together properly. Linus, for example, had to saw off a piece of his graphics card to make it fit, and use a piece of wood as a CPU cooler backplate. Still, the final product is impressive for the price.
Depending on the GPU used while building your own PC, this system should be able to run games decent enough and there is always the feeling of glory after building something from scratch, especially something this powerful.
