Sony Announces List Of Emulated PS2 Games For PS4 At A Cost
Ever since Microsoft announced Xbox One backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games, with a massive list of more than 200 titles available right now, there had been some pressure on Sony to do the same for their PS4 console. While the complex architecture of PS3 furthered the divide between it and PS4 making it pretty much impossible to have backwards compatibility or emulation, Sony did finally announce that PS2 emulation would be possible.
Over the weekend during PSX, Sony finally shared some more details about PS2 emulation on PS4 along with a list of games and their prices. Yes, that’s right, the games, even if you do own old copies will cost you at least $10, somewhat similar to the PS Classics program on PSN and won’t be free like the backwards compatibility on Xbox One.
The list of games, and their prices, confirmed to support emulation are listed below:
- Dark Cloud — $14.99/£11.99
- Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99/£11.99
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99/£11.99
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99/£11.99
- Rogue Galaxy — $14.99/£11.99
- The Mark of Kri — $14.99/£11.99
- Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99/£7.99
- War of the Monsters — $9.99/£7.99
Even though these emulated versions of the games will support upscaled 1080p resolution and full trophy list, the prices do seem a bit steep especially for games like Vice City and San Andreas which are available on PS3 for around $5.
Not only that but customers from Reg 2 stores will also be paying more than those who make the purchase from US PSN store. A $15 game would cost around $18 when purchased in UK.
