ASRock Now Lets You Overclock DDR4 Memory on Non-Z170 Motherboards
Yes, you heard it right. DDR4 memory overclocking is no more exclusive to owners of Intel Z10 motherboards. ASRock has just announced a new feature, dubbed DDR4 Non-Z OC, on its B150, H170, and H110 motherboards, which allows users to overclock their DDR4 memory modules on those boards.
According to ASRock, the new feature is similar to DDR4 OC found in the UEFI BIOS of ASRock Z170 motherboards, which unleases the memory frequency from 2133MHz to max. 2800MHz, providing up to a 30% boost. The DDR4 Non-Z OC, on the other hand, adds automatic memory overclocking capabilities to non-Z B150, H170, H110 motherboards to help improve the memory performance.
ASRock also offers a custom boot-up image to check whether your memory modules are successfully activated and fully compatible with ASRock DDR4 OC or DDR4 Non-Z OC. The boot-up image smartly shows up what your system is capable of.
With non-compatible modules, the ASRock boot-up logo will be plain white, but if the DDR4 technology is enabled, the logo will take a dash of shiny gold thorugh its middle.
Here’s a list of non-Z170 motherboards that currently support DDR4 Non-Z OC, with more on the way:
You can expect up to a 5% performance boost in the SiSoftware Sandra memory benchmark, as concluded by tests conducted by ASRock on one of its Intel B150 motherboards.
