Snapchat Expanding Live Stories With Story Explorer For A Different Perspective On Stories
Snapchat’s current Live Stories is certainly a very popular and exciting feature of the picture-social media app, and the developers are now busy rolling out yet another new feature to expand upon it. Called Story Explorer, it allows users to dive deeper into specific Snaps/Stories created by other users that they see on their feed.
So what exactly is Story Explorer? Basically, what it does is present the current story that a user is viewing, from a different perspective. Users simply have to swipe up on a specific story to reveal Snaps of the same moment but from different angles as submitted by different users.
For example, someone is watching a story on a football goal, they can use the Story Explorer to view the exact moment that the goal was scored, from different angles. Of course, there need to be other Snapchat users present in that moment who contributed to the specific story with their own uploads but considering that Snapchat is used by more than 100 million people daily, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Twitter also started something quite similar recently, known as Moments, which offers curated lists comprising of a mix of content from both users and official news outlets. Similarly, around Halloween, Instagram also toyed with a Best Videos feature revolving around Halloween festivities.
Story Explorer looks to be part of a growing impetus among social media companies to offer event-specific content discovery and better leverage on user content. The feature will be going live today on New York and Los Angeles Live Stories, but the developers are already at work to add functionality to other locations as well.
