Android 6.0 Update Available For HTC One M8 Users
It was discovered only last week that HTC devices, especially the flagship smartphones like HTC One M8, would be getting Google’s latest mobile firmware, Android 6.0 Marshmallow pretty soon, even sooner than devices from Samsung and Sony. Now, it seems that it is finally happening as users are reporting that the Google Play Edition of HTC One M8 has started receiving 6.0 update over-the-air.
For other phones, however, it will still take time since the Google Play Edition runs on stock Android unlike other devices which are powered by HTC’s Sense UI, essentially ensuring that not a whole lot of work was needed to port the update over to the HTC phone.
The update is around 450MB, almost half the size of the update on Nexus 6, and as usual will be sent out in waves so all One M8 users with the Google Play Edition should be getting theirs over the course of a few days.
Among many other changes that Marshmallow brings to the Android firmware besides usual bug fixes is perhaps the new Doze feature which automatically shuts down background apps when the phone is not in use thereby improving battery life quite significantly.
The update also fixes some security issues discovered in previous Android versions and adds support for fingerprint scanners, however you need a compatible phone to actually use the fingerprint scanning feature.
