Ubuntu Mate Tools Bring Ubuntu Flavors to Raspberry Pi 2
There are a number of available Linux distributions for Raspberry Pi 1 & 2, but the Ubuntu Mate developers want to bring more to the community.
The team has been working on some tools that allowed them to build the distribution for the Raspberry Pi 2 platform. They’ve put together those tools and now they want some help from the community to name them so that other projects, like Xubuntu or Lubuntu, can use them.
Linux enthusiast and podcaster Martin Wimpress wrote in a Google+ post:
Ubuntu MATE community, I need your help! The tools we’ve created to make Ubuntu MATE for the +Raspberry Pi 2 have been generalised. I’ve now built every +Ubuntu flavour, including server versions, for the Pi 2. That said, there is no DDX/DRI capable X11 driver for the Raspberry Pi 2 so +Ubuntu GNOME, +Kubuntu, and Ubuntu Unity desktops don’t work? But +Lubuntu, +Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE and Ubuntu Server work very well.
Anyone interested can download the Ubuntu MATE 15.10 for Raspberry Pi distribution from the official servers.
