Alienware Steam Machines Available For Pre-Order Ahead of November 10 Launch
Ever since the announcement, every gamer has had their eyes on Valve’s Steam Machines (Valve doesn’t actually build them, just the OS and steam client) which promise to provide the power of a desktop PC with the hassle-free usage of a console. Sounds pretty awesome right? Though it remains to be seen how they actually perform in real conditions but things are looking up.
Dell Alienware, while not the only company working on Steam Machines, is still the most prominent one since they have a great history of creating gaming desktops and notebooks. The company is offering users a choice of 3 different Steam Machine models, all available for pre order now so they can be delivered near the official launch date of 10th November.
The main difference between all three models of Alienware’s system is the processor. The cheapest one, costing $450 features a 4th gen Core i3, the $650 one features 4th Core i5 and the most expensive one at $750 has a 4th generation Core i7 processor. While the amount of RAM can be customized for Core i5 and Core i7 ones, the Core i3 model only features 4GB of memory.
All the machines will feature a custom built Nvidia GPU with 2GB of GDDR5 video memory. There is no exact detail available regarding which chipset this custom GPU will be based on which is kind of a bad move since people would be interested in knowing exactly what kind of a setup they are paying for, especially if it’s the expensive Core i5 or i7 version.
Let’s hope that detail is made clear when the first Steam Machine is available on November 10th and that the performance doesn’t disappoint.
