Sony Xperia Devices That will Update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow Skipping 5.1.1 Lollipop
Sony Mobile recently announced a list of devices that would be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow; however, it didn’t reveal its strategy regarding the roll-out. Most of the devices on the list are still stuck to Android 5.0 Lollipop – only the recently released Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact are currently running on Android 5.1.1.
It was speculated that Sony may move straight to Android 6.0 Marshmallow as the firmware appeared on Telstra’s software roadmap. Well it looks like that will indeed be the case. According to Sony Mobile’s support pages, owners of select Xperia devices won’t have to wait until the end of the year before they receive the next major Android update.
Following are the Xperias that will make the jump to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, skipping the 5.1 Lollipop update:
- Xperia M4 Aqua
- Xperia C4
- Xperia C5 Ultra
- Xperia M5
- Xperia Z3+
- Xperia Z4 Tablet
The phone maker is yet to reveal details on exactly when owners of these devices should expect to get their updates. Hopefully, this should happen starting the next few months. We’ll keep an eye out and let you know when new details surface. Stay tuned!
